Autumn Garlic - bent leaves
« on: November 19, 2018, 07:27 »
Morning all,

Planted my autumn Garlic and shallots quite early (late september) expecting the 1st frosts to kick in (which they didn't!) and now have 1ft high leaves on both. Problem is the punishing winds have bent over the shoots leaving them looking a bit straggly and messy.

Is this ok? Or should I cut my losses and start again?

The varieties are
Garlic - Germidour & Carcassone Wight
Shallots - Jermor & Golden Gourmet.

Think I may have jumped the gun a bit planting them so early...

They will recover in the Spring.  After a winter they are going to look even worse but they usually recover ok in my experience.

They will perk up, especially in spring when there is more light. Good thing is they have sprutted so will photosynthesise.
