Sweet potatoes in the greenhouse.

(1/1)

Kleftiwallah:

Excelent ground cover and pretty flowers!  They have even snuck out through the brick ventilation holes into the outside world.  I'll be very interested to see what spuds we have!

Cheers,  Tony.

SnooziSuzi:
Mine haven't even thought about flowering yet!  This is my first time growing them and they are in my poly.

How big will the vines grow and when *should* I see flowers?

TIA
Su

Kleftiwallah:

The varieties of sweet potato I'm growin should be renamed "Triffidus Spudulous"!

Cheers,  Tony.

sunshineband:
I have not tried these but my plot neighbour grew some two years ago in a big container, in her greenhouse. Leaves everywhere! She left them until the leaves dies back then emptied out the trough and there were some edible size roots..... leave them until the leaves die back then perhaps

Kleftiwallah:
That's just what I intend to do sunshineband.

That was the reason I asked about not having enough room in my compost bins.  I have a hexagonal bin and I cut out two halves of expanded polystyrene, wrapped black plastic around them and placed them on top of the bin's contents.  My word, what a different set of beasties munching away when I gently move the foam to 'ave a shufti'!

Cheers,  Tony.
