Worm Castings
« on: June 09, 2018, 12:14 »
Anyone else using worm castings from their own wormery on their plots? What sort of results have you had? I bought some worms off eBay for my wormery/compost bins and so far they are doing an amazing job at producing some really good quality castings. Can’t wait to actually use them on my plot!

Just noticed your post. Yes, i have about 7 wormeries so plenty of castings to use in the garden. I just sprinkle it across the surface when a batch is ready. I don't dig it in although sometimes i'll gently rake it across the beds.

Invaluable for soil fertility, are rich in microbial activity, provide essential plant nutrients that enhance plant growth (double that of bacterial compost), produce pest-repellent characteristics due to it’s rich source of nutrients, vitamins, enzymes, antibiotics, growth hormones – all of which give disease resistance to plants, improve yield and quality of produce, favourably affects PH, soil enzymes and microbial population..... and to top it all off, castings are environmentally sound - great way to handle domestic food waste and reduce demand on broader communal processing plants.

You'll certainly notice the difference in the health of your garden.

Grow lights for early germination;
Blow away on NE facing terrace for hardening off;
Small potager 90sq.m at 300metres
No-dig method, intensive planting and incorporating permaculture principles.
