Modified standard garden trowel - "snub nosed trowel"

Always found the traditional garden trowel not that useful on heavy soil.

Well after a few minutes with "Mr Grinder & Mr Hammer"... Voila !

Its been de-beaked and flattened across the central area plus sharpened into a cutting edge across the snub and along the left hand edge as I am right handed (Right edge if you are left handed)

Disclaimer: Always wear safety googles and away from flamible materials when grinding metal.

When I took over my current allotment the previous tenant left all of his tools and he had 2 that he had clearly fashioned himself.

One was what I can only call a flat pan hoe - a piece of sharp metal, about 12 inches wide by about 8 inches deep was attached at about 45 degrees to a pole.  It does an amazing job at hoeing just under the surface and nothing escapes.

The other thing was a pole with a trowel on the end, bent at 90 degrees, for making drills!

Brilliant ingenuity, I thought.

I've been using it a lot lately on the plot, yesterday de-scalping a weedy mound of soil in about 5 mins. Stabbing the base of the mound then rolling the weeds into a mass then stabbing & rolling some more until all the weeds were cleared and now all in a nice single rolled up mass of weeds. Easily carried to the compost heap.

Also planted some potatoes using my snubbed nose trowel, found it creates a bigger more wedged shape hole.
