Thanks, Snowy, but it costs nothing and gives so much pleasure.  I believe that small kindnesses make everyone's life a little better.

Couldn’t agree more, on the odd occasion when I’ve had tickets for a show or something & then been unable to go, I’ve offered them to friends/family etc & they’ve been so thrilled when I wouldn’t accept payment, all I ask is that they pass it on if they get the chance. It came back to me when I was given 2 tickets to Chelsea flower show a few years back that someone on here had won, such a treat.

We planted our first dahlias last year after seeing the display they had at Anglesey Abbey.  But I negelected to get a really nice red...my excuse is to buy Sam Hopkins as a Valentines Present for my guy   Not for me, no.

( Oriental lilies are my fav cut flower but just do not grow in my garden  :( )
I can resist anything except temptation.

This thread has convinced me to order a catalogue, although that website looks far too appealing for the likes of my wallet...

You should get an insert in the catalogue offering you 20% off your first order.  If not, you can get discount by signing up for email updates on the website.  I am probably not helping here am I

I went for a single dahlia in the end - Penhill Watermelon, but also ordered a few young plants and 2 packets of  flower seeds

I know we established that the answer to the original question was no, but a catalogue arrived (not from Sarah this time) and these caught my eye.  3 mega bulbs for a £5.  Seems rude not to

https://www.jparkers.co.uk/3-lilium-claude-shride-1013026c

There are also various oriental ones at £2.99 for 5 - product codes L020, L021 & L022.

You get 40 gladioli bulbs free with any order.  Postage is a flat rate £3.99.

I love lilies, and used to have quite a lot in the garden until the invasion of the dreaded lily beetle. Despite my best efforts, every one of my lilies is no more.

I potted up all my overwintered tubers at the end of March, and all started into growth quite quickly in the greenhouse - except for  Café au Lait Royale and Belle of Barmera. By the middle of last week they still didn't have any growth, even had a rake around in the compost to make sure. So I ordered some replacements as rooted cuttings..... you all know what I'm going to say now, don't you  ::)

Yes, that's right, when I looked this morning small shoots were showing in both pots pffff!  :nowink:

That's OK, as dahlias look amazing in a swathe  :D

Exactly the same happened here :( Although we tried with night-time wandering paint-brush and pot in hand for days on end we eventually gave up and abandoned them. Sad for the rather pretty beetle too as it ate itself literally out of house and home.. Daft creature.

I wasn't going to admit it but I'm afraid we tried that too.... but it failed after two years of squirting and trying to remove them manually. We had loads of lilies dotted around the garden - shame as they made quite a show but... move on and try something else.

Maybe, at some time in the future, we will try again but not just yet.
