« on: November 09, 2017, 19:34 »
Evening All

I,am thinking of buying a shredder for next year. Does anyone have one or have some advice
on what to buy? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers.

I'm not sure of particular makes, but general advice would be consider the max width of branches it can take, its volume (dB), and that it can reverse the blades if it gets stuck.

I'm sure others will have better advice than that though ... !
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I don’t know about petrol shredders but the electric one I have doesn’t like green stuff, it prefers things that are dry & woody, not sure if they are all the same.

The best shredder for green stuff is a lawn-mower, electric or petrol. Just put the stuff on the ground and run it over ita few times

I think you may be right.  Certainly when we've had a professional chipper on site they've not been able to do the really springy stuff; it gums up the blades.

I agree that a rotary mower would do the trick for the finest stuff.

I've got my dads Qualcast shredder. It's one of those slow rpm jobs that can chew quite thick stuff up (adjustable). As it's 240v it's no good on the plot unless I can use a genny (which my mate pointed out that we have in, and haven't used it in years though)

I've seen petrol ones on fleabay and did wonder about getting one to get rid of brambles/dead rose trunks etc. Camon do one but they are expensive (unless you are lucky)

hi I hired a shredder a couple of years ago it had a horizontal rota that cut against a fixed knife it was ideal for soft materials especially conifer, but as suggested a good rotary lawnmower gets rid of a lot of stuff eg 100ft of privet cuttings goes down to 1wheelie bin full   I call it reduction therapy jezza
