It seems that it will peak here in N Cumbria very late tonight, maybe around midnight with 60mph gusts. It always gets me on edge as we are surrounded on three sides by very large trees. But then I convince myself that they have survived at least 80 years, so what the heck!!
#
Another concern is the power supply. We've had three power cuts this year, each lasting several hours so fingers crossed for tonight

Bad enough gusts here, and we are fairly east. Take care, stay in if you can everyone.

I was working on the allotments in bright sunshine one minute, the next it was a weird orang/red sun in a grey sky.
All the birds went quiet like they do when there's an eclipse  ???
Very strange, but I'm home now -just in case it's the end of the world

We are in the middle of the country, sheltered by the Cotswolds and the winds are really picking up.  There will be trees down in the morning.

Thoughts are with those in Eire and NI, Isle of Man, Wales and the wider Scottish Borders - particularly with overhead power & telephone lines.  Good Luck!

Hope everyone is OK

This was about 2:00pm here: weirdly scary sort of light, with a dark sky. Felt very strange out on the plot and even more strange when we got home as it was dark and the birds were all quiet. No kites in the sky even

Quiet calm with sunshine and blue skies.  And still warm.  Could be early September ...

Well, we've had worse winds here but at least all is well except the hen ark blew over so no eggs today!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Same here. We didn't even get the usual power-cut

Got a bit windier here overnight than I was expecting, but not enough to cause any obvious damage.

It seemed to run up the East of Ireland, then turn across Cumbria and Scotland, rather than the earlier forecasts of straight up the Irish Sea. That may have helped a little.

Just found the damage - houseplants that were 'summering out' on the balcony are all tipped over and muddled up.   :( Caught the wind swirl at the corner of the house.  Mind you, if I had watered them a little more often they might have done better ...     Oh well, that is going to be this afternoon's job then.

Milford marina lock gate taken off its hinges by the storm surge blocking the lock.
Vessels inside will not get out for a couple of tides !

Despite the death toll Ireland dodged a bullet here. The very strrongest winds stayed offshore to the south, and gusts over Northern Ireland were not as high as forecast, as the sting jet (where the most extreme winds are found) collapsed as it came ashore, and the storm was weakening as it moved north and east. The jog to the west just before landfall in Ireland helped to keep the strongest winds further away from mainland UK
