Best Value Seed Supplier?
« on: January 02, 2016, 21:26 »
Hi

Looking for the best value supplier selling quality seeds at a reasonable price.

Last couple of years I've been using premier seeds on ebay.

Any pointers welcome.

Adri

Premier are very good, and we liked their stuff, as the quants were smaller, and cheaper.

We may well go somewhere to get a 50% off deal, like Notcutts, as for some insane reason, they have their seed sale in January!

We want some special Thompson and Morgan seeds, but they may have been swallowed up by another company by now, so watch this space!

It depends what you are after.

If it is just fresh seed then wilkos, lidl and aldi.
If you just want small quantities then moreveg.
However I think premier seed deserve a top spot. Fair price, large range, large and smallish quantities available and if you have issues they will follow it up.

Premier seeds direct.  Ebay.

I've just ordered 3 packets of 400 pea seeds,
1 packet of 1000 celery seed.
1 packet of Romanesco seed and it cost me £4.95 and free postage.

That'll do nicely.

Moles Seeds take a lot of beating for seeds in quantity.

There is a minimum order of £7.50. Postage is free on lightweight seed and there is a 3% discount for ordering on line with a card.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thinking of going back to Premier Seeds on Ebay then.

But would they now be selling new stock or seed left over from last season...don't want dodgy germination...

If you have dodgy germination - tell them. They will test their batches. I bought 4 types of asparagus last year and one didn't do well. They tested their batch and their test was below what they were happy with and they refunded  :)

Thing is the germination failure could be my fault.  I just want to make sure they have the latest stocks before ordering...I'll ask via ebay.  Don't want to offend though.

Asked Premier and their reply was...

"All our seeds are lab tested for viability and the latest stock has a sow by date of mid to late 2017 depending on variety. "

I'll be ordering tonight then...

From somewhere I have Moreveg bookmarked, have used them previously, and they seem to be very good, especially if you only want a smaller supply. That is their "speciality", smaller amounts.

Makes them good for a garden bed or two. Allotments may want more in quantity. But for a small plot or garden the quantities are about right. Also mans that you can buy 2 different varities if you did want a greater amount.

They have a good selection of vegetable seeds and varieties within the vegetables also. Do actually need to work out a selection of only about 8 vegetable to grow and will be getting what I need from their selection.

There was a similar supplier however, although good and selling along similar lines - small quantities - I do not have a website and from memory they seemed to sell possibly via ebay under more then one name. The name on the seed packs I have from them does not appear via a search. Also the name on the packets are not familiar to me so it may be the real name under which to others trade. Shame as they were good, had a slightly different selection in areas to Moreveg but cannot identify them.

That would have been Alan Roman's - been taken over by T&M - at a guess.
