MAKING OIL DRUMS SAFE FOR WATER
« on: July 04, 2015, 20:53 »
Hi as usual I am getting short of water on the plot. Despite having an IBC and 2 food grade 200 litres blue butts. These are being offered on EBAY within a reasonable distance of up to £20. I can get hold of 45 gallon oil drums for next to nothing. My question is how do you get them clean. Do you have a fire in there first to burn off the oil. Or do you need to have a degreaser to get them clean. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

With all due respect, I personally, wouldn't use them.
We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden.

Find a local haulage firm and ask them if they have any spare Adblue barrels. These are the blue 200ltr barrels and Adblue is the additive they put in the diesel to help reduce emissions. Adblue is urea diluted down so is perfectly safe once you swill it out.
I did the eBay thing for my first one but once I realised the above I got 2 more free from a local firm!
