Hi everyone, ive just been over to fix my sister run and look after her a bit as she is very upset.
She was woke up this morning by her puppy going mad at the back door, she went out to the garden to find an urban fox in her run! A big one at that!
The fox was not eating her birds, just going from one to another ripping them to shreds! Horror!
She ran into the run waving her arms an shouting and the RUDDY FOX jumped up an bit her hand, she grabbed the nearest tool (a metal bucket) and wacked the invading animal in the snout. It backed off then proceeded to jump up and bite her other arm befor juming over the fence to freedom!
I couldnt believe it!
I know foxs will kill for food but from the state of the mess he left he was doing it for fun, the birds were killed, not eaten... an to attack my little sister.....
Needless to say the run has been well an truly reinforced after a trip to the hospital....
Today was not a good day :(

Got to be so careful with anything cornered or in an enclosed space, a pal was badly mauled by a badger which was in amongst his chickens :( Hope sis recovers quickly.

Poor girl cant even make a cup of tea her hands are so bandaged up :(
Luckily she lives round the corner from our mum so she will be well looked after.

Oh dear that is really awful. So sorry your sister got hurt, never thought a fox would attack an adult. As for ripping the chickens to shreds, that is just their instincts I'm afraid. Just goes to show that chicken keepers have to be lucky every day, the fox just has to be lucky once.😔

A fox will bury it's meat for a few weeks before eating it.
Hope your sis is ok, don't let the puppy outside on it's own as the fox will be back.

The pups never outside unsupervised luckily.
With regards the fox coming back, is it true male urine (human) will deter him from returning?
Not to be gross, but I have a spare spray bottle.... should I pee in it an spray round her coop, run an garden?

you could try. no idea if it would work. the fox would have to be reasonably close to smell it.
do you have a pest controller in your area. it must surely be a priority to remove the problem permanently!

Sorry to hear about the attack on your sister and the chickens,do you know if there is a shoot in your area,the game keeper would gladly come and kill the fox,and check the area for you,they are always on the look out as they have their own birds to look after.
Your sister will get well looked after i wish her a speedy recovery.
