Hello all.
I have desired chickens for many years. When we moved to a larger house nearly 5 years ago, hubby said we could get chickens. It took nearly 4 years to turn the overgrown wasteland we had into a garden. I managed to buy a 2nd hand Eglu and run on eBay for a reasonable price a few months ago, and today, we finally collected the girls!!
They are 21 week old Bovan Browns (apparently), and they are called Mona, Molly, and Martha.
They are already showing their personalities!!
Martha is a darker brown, Molly has some speckles, and Mona is a pale sandy colour.
I'm so happy I could burst!!
I can't wait to bombard you all with loads of questions! (don't worry - I know how to use the search function ;))

I am so pleased for you. chickens are fab and fresh eggs! enjoy

Look good, they should go into lay before Christmas.
Are they on layer pellets? Get some oyster shell for the calcium and grit if they are not going to free range.
If very cold check water a few times a day, mine have gone over to a washing up bowl for winter.

Yes - they are on layer pellets, and I've given them grit/oyster shell.
The lady in the country stores was most helpful when I asked what a beginner needed to keep chickens. She was a chicken keeper herself, so pointed me in the right directions :)

Well, my girls started laying just 2 days after moving in. We have had 7 eggs from them so far and they have only been with us for a week!!!
