The great bubble wrap debate.

Great idea in winter, but is it a good idea to keep it in through summer too? Does it keep the temps down when it's really sunny? Does it let enough light in for good results with tomatoes? I always thought toms needed direct sunlight to flourish.

I've always taken mine down to maximise light - though I might use some as curtains around my cucs to keep moisture up

I'm fortunate in that I have 2 greenhouses.  my little 6 x 6 GH is bubblewrapped which I leave on all year.  Once the seedlings are out, I will put a couple of aubergines and cucumbers in there which don't need as much sunshine.

Not sure if it does keep things cooler if the door is shut.  If I don't open the door until later in the morning, it can get up to 36C in there, sometimes more.  My chillies are going into my bigger greenhouse and most of my tomatoes will be in the polytunnel.

But I think if it is your only greenhouse, then maybe taken down or like someone on here mentioned the other week, they roll their bubblewrap up and tie it like a roller blind!

It cuts down direct sunlight so things shouldn't scorch but it won't do much to reduce the temperature, because it doesn't provide shade.
It does let in enough light for tomatoes  :)

I think that ventilation is the most important thing for keeping down temps.

I've taken out the top pointy pane of glass from the end of my g/house so that there's plenty of through draught ;)

Forgot to say, polytunnels are usually opaque anyway, and I always grow my tomatoes in there.

Today, I've had bother openers fully open, the door wide open, and chucked water on the foor (flags) at every opportunity. It's been in the mid 40's. Even now, it is 30+.
