freezing raspberries
« on: July 04, 2011, 16:05 »
We are getting a wee bit overwhelmed with raspberries and I would like to freeze some. Do I just chuck them in the freezer or is there more to it?

you need to lay them out in a single layer (on a tray for example), freeze them initially like that and then bag/box/container them up

so they don't stick together :)

Good tip; thank you
I would have ended up with a solid lump of raspberries  the size of my Tesco freezer bags ::)

I do that with all the strawberries but the raspberries are for jam so i just chuck them in the bag and will defrost before use... I rinse in a sieve and then let them drain for a while so they dont get loads of water frozen with them too

I too freeze on an open tray and then put into bags.

Always make sure I have a couple of handfuls left so I can mix with mandarin oranges for a trifle at Christmas.  Christmas wouldn't be the same without a little summer grown fruit in the pudd.

I'm doing mine on a tray as they are not all coming at the same time so i have enough to get a pot of jam , first year for raspberries but they look good m, some of them seem a bit long and the bushes at the other end look like they are going to be late flowers just dropping now , we were told they were all raspberries , can you get a later cropping raspberry ??
