freezing broad beans
« on: July 02, 2010, 11:25 »
Can some one tell me the best way to freeze broad beans. I have a glut already!
Do I need to blanche them first? Thanks  :)

I just pick them, pod them and bung them in the freezer as quick as I can.

We just pick 'em shell 'em and into the freezer. Good for 12 months so far.

Hi all, I know this is an old thread but you know, recycle and all that.

So is the consensus here that you don't need to blanch first?  I've got my best broad bean crop yet, about the equivalent of 6 cans, I couldn't be bothered to get the scales out.  It's a bit disappointing to be honest as the bag before they were shelled seems to weigh more than the potatoes.  Anyway, to blanch or not to blanch, that is the question...
