parsnip leaves dead
« on: October 01, 2010, 14:36 »
Hi, I have some parsnips growing in the ground and some in a very large tub. The leaves of the ones in the tub have died so I tipped them all out. The parsips look ok, a few with minor brown marks on them. There are about a bucket full of them. Does anyone know why the leaves died and what is the best way to store them?

The foliage does tend to die down in the Autumn indicating that the roots are ready for lifting. I don't dig mine up though as they do seem to taste better after the frosts. I harvest when they are needed on the dinner plate.

Put them in the freezer for an hour or so, not as good as the real thing but better than nothing
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.
