Hello there, im Kerry.  I bought my hen run and coop a few weeks ago and im in the process of securing my back garden for chickens which will be coming tomorrow.  I am wanting to know if there is anyone in the Angus area who has found a local supplier of chicken food?  I have a few 5kg bags of layers pellet which i bought from pets r us but at five pound a bag its not as good as the deals im seeing online *usually £10 for 25kg bag.  Im getting 5 ex bat hens, which have been retired for 6 months so have grown their feathers.  Any info would be great.

Hi kerry and welcome  :D

Well done for getting ex-batts. You'll get a warm welcome from all of us for that (you would do anyway  ) :D

Can't offer help for feed suppliers but, as you say, £5 for 5kg is extortion.
We pay £7 for 20kg which I think is fairly average.

Hope to see you around.

hi kerry and welcome from me too  :)
our pets r us does the full size bags (20kg or whatever it is)....its still expensive but obvioiusly MUCH cheaper than a fiver for 5KG!!!      how can they get away with that???

your best bet will always be your local feed / agricultural merchant i would have thought... if you buy online i would have thought the postage would negate any saving on the product itself

Ceri  :)

Hello there!  I would Google poultry feed producers 1st of all.  Then pull them up one at a time.  They usually have a possibility for you to get hold of a local supplier of their feed.  You then get in touch with the local supplier and check on what they charge for the feed plus the delivery. If you do this a few times you can sort out the best deal for you.  I did this & it worked out splendidly.  I find it's best to order bedding, food, grit, bait for rats etc in the one order as you pay one delivery charge per trip.  Hope this helps.
