Chest freezer time.
« on: December 03, 2015, 15:26 »
It's going in an unheated garage which really limits the brand, I can only find one ?

There's a choice of 104 / 205 / 360 ltrs and whilst Im of a mind bigger is the way to go, I think the 360ltr may be silly. How big is yours  :D

It's not stupidly big for the 2 of you is it Val ?  I worry there will just be a box of fish fingers kicking around in the bottom of it.
Did you consider the 205ltr version at all (which only appears to be available at 1 retailer) or were you also in a bigger is better and if there's space why not frame of mind..

It's full! And so are our other two freezers   . It's very easy to organise..........we put plastic boxes into the bottom x 3 with the wire baskets that come with it over the top.  They slide along to give you access to the bottom boxes. This freezer is mainly for veg and home made ready meals/soups/tomato puree etc. which stack as they are in chinese take-away style freezer proof boxes.

And, at the moment, 12+ lbs of black currants waiting for me to get around to turn into jam/jelly etc. I think it depends on what you want it for. If, like us, you blanch and freeze a lot of home produce it quickly gets filled.

With all that space you could buy half a cow and have it stocked up in man-sized portions...

If you grow your own and cook, you cannot have too much freezer space.

I have 3 enormous upright freezers in the garage. There are only 2 of us and I still don't have enough freezer space!

I have one full of fruit and veg, one full of meat, fish and home cooked ready meals and the third one is full of Christmas goodies and bread.

I have a big upright, the biggest domestic chest freezer I could get and a little under the counter one .....  and with two of us they are full......  By early june there will be lots of room after we have eaten all (or almost all) the fruit and veg from the garden and plot and are ready to start again ....  As it is I want some treats for <ahem> and cant figure out how to get them in.

If I lived in town with a convenient supermarket and didn't grow stuff or bargain hunt, then probably the under the counter one would do .... but that isn't my life!  ::)

I've got exactly the same one as Val and it is fab (and there is only the 2 of us too). Seriously thinking about getting another 1. Sometimes get cold fingers chasing around at the bottom trying to find something I want or doing a little inventory but brilliant, especially for the price.
Another great thing is how long it stays frozen if you lose power (happens a lot round here). We lost power for almost 4 days and everything was fine.

You can NEVER have too big a freezer!

I've been following this thread with great interest ....and now.... the Plotfather isn't speaking to any of for putting ideas into my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he will come round in the end as I have no room in the 2 upright freezers we have. He keeps wanting to buy stuff for Christmas, and I have to say "I can't store it!" We could buy one and keep it in my little potting shed....I'll find a way! :)

So how's the freezer, Lardman?

Still not ordered  :(

Everything is up in the air again - not literately though (have you tried to lift a miele w500) ! At the moment she wants the garage partitioned, insulated and heating installed then tall fridge freezer moving from the old house  >:( It's proving to be a very hard sell.
