Am I too late to move soft fruit?
« on: March 11, 2010, 22:27 »
I foolishly planted various soft fruits too close together 2 years ago (pregnant, too tired to dig any more, so just plonked them in.) Now I have more space prepared, and am wondering if it is too late in the spring to move them this year? I have a blueberry bush which is only one year old and about 12" tall, a red currant and a black currant, both 2 yrs old and about 2ft tall, and a row of autumn gold raspberries that would all benefit from some more breathing space. (This is only half of everything, but obviously I don't need to move everything!) Everything fruited really well last year, in fact I still have lots left in the freezer. Should I move stuff now (I can do it tomorrow,) or should I leave it till next winter now? If they CAN be moved now, any re-planting top tips?

Ideally you would have moved them in January but this year the ground was frozen or covered in snow. Try and dig out a big root ball with each bush and then keep them well watered for the next month or so while they settle.

Yes, we seemed to go straight from frozen solid ground to Spring well and truly sprung this year!
