Hi all came home today to find my comfrey roots had came wasn’t expecting them to be as big was wondering can I cut them smaller pic shows roots on a side of metro paper

I agree, I started with a few pieces like that and each plant is now 3ft wide  Easy then to chop a bit off it, if you really need more, but I doubt it

Planted a Comfrey bed last year and despite the poor Spring the plants are already flying.

Looking forward to using it on the patch this year

Sorry I should have explained better my comfrey bed will be on a bit of waste ground but my son in law and his dad (both have large plots on same allotment) want to start a comfrey bed so was just thinking about helping them get going but didn’t want to make my root cuttings so small as to cause me problems

Personally I wouldn't go any smaller, especially if direct planting. Once established next year you could split a plant and get as many root cuttings as you have there from it. There's a fair old section on the site about comfrey: Comfrey - Bocking 14 - Articles & Information on Comfrey
