Blue Mould on shallot sets
« on: February 19, 2018, 20:59 »
I got three bags of shallot sets a little over two weeks ago (they were packed in brown paper bags).  When I opened them earlier the two bags of Red Gourmet were covered in blue mould.  Out I bring them back to the shop or will they be ok to use.

I would take them back, although the shop staff may well suggest you should have unpacked them a little sooner.

I will bring them back in tomorrow and see what they say.  Mind you I was only saying to my husband the other day that Next year I am going to look for a new supplier for potatoes and sets.  Their catalogue had a great selection of potatoes and I ordered some new ones to try, I got my order in within 24 hours of them going on line, they were all available according to the website but then got a call to say that none of were available, I ended up with the same varieties that I have been using for years.  I also got plants for the garden off them last year and they all failed.

Do you mind sharing the name of that supplier? Only I've had an issue with a big name supplier this Winter and a few others I've spoken to have had problems too...

Most suppliers are very keen to put things right in my experience,  given the opportunity

That really is not good enough especially as they were in paper bags which would have let them breath somewhat. I always use D T Browns and over the years I'veonly had two problems with their supply and they were quickly replaced with apologies.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
