  having  raised my leek seed in pots there now ready to transplant in the allotment can anyone tell me in there opinion what is the best thing to feed leeks

 the raised beds  have already had manure dug in for planting but little bit of something to help them grow a bit  bigger would help

As with nearly everything else, I put a few chicken manure pellets in the bottom of the planting hole. It seems to work.

A bit like our Mamofstig but I generally give the row a dressing of fish blood n bone first a week a so before, then a sprinkling of chuck muck pellet.

Snap... seems to do the job alright!

This year I am fending off the leek moths with enviromesh.. something else to think about!

I use Elliot's Growmore general fertiliser. I buy it at a farming-supplies outlet, part of a national chain called Cropwise. It's £18.50 for a 25Kg sack. I get at least four seasons out of one sack. Buy it in garden centres and you'll pay more than that for a 5Kg tub of it!!

Last year I made the mistake of listening to an old pal who recommended as much nitrogen as possible so I dosed them with large amounts of pasture fertiliser. They certainly grew well, rapidly bulked up and equally rapidly went to seed and became inedible

I forgot to say I also give mine a dose of Epsom Salts, just ruffled into the ground, around mid January if the ground is not frozen. Helps them stay nice and green after a wet Winter

I thought I was beginning to understand leeks. I am going to plant them out in the proscribed method in May and be ready to harvest about November. Then I walk past our garden shop and they have trays of ready to plant in the hole leeks (it's end of November). Shop owner says you can plant them more or less anytime. Surely not.

If you plant them now you'd probably get small leeks to eat in Spring.
You sow them and plant, different varieties, at different times, according to when you want to eat them and how big you want them to be.
I should think you could have them all year round, if you really wanted to

You can sow or plant spring onions most of the year but definitely not leeks. Yes, some varieties can differ in their harvesting time but they need time to grow over summer.
