Dirty gravel bed
« on: March 01, 2017, 10:24 »
I have been thinking about how to clean the wide gravel path that runs across the front of my house.  It is north facing and gets no sun, and the water doesn't drain away from it very well and puddles.  (I have tried to  improve the drainage, with no success)  The gravel has now become discoloured and a bit green looking, and a bit mossy.
I am considering making up a solution of bleach and water and applying it.  Do you think this will clean it up ? and it should certainly stop the weeds from popping through.   There are no beds of planting anywhere nearby.
Would appreciate your comments or other suggestions,  regards,  Mrs Bouquet

My neighbour gets a local firm to pressure wash his gravel from time to time.

I've been recommended 'Wet it & forget it' for our very green & slimy sandstone patio, I've bought some, not cheap but if you Google, then go to the website. then you get pop ups with discount vouchers, I got 30% off by waiting. Take a look & see if it would be suitable. I'm still waiting for dry conditions to apply it. It came very highly recommended by 2 people, 1 was the delivery driver who delivered it, she had nothing to do with the company

We have some gravel garden paths that, thanks to the hens, are now moreorless mud with gravel stuck in it.  We are going to look at having resin bound gravel installed - essentially glued gravel with a permeable membrane underneath for drainage.  This can then be jet washed as necessary, no weeds, no mess for the future.  OH is fed up of cleaning the gravel by panning it with water in a sieve - back breaking and takes ages.  Not sure what the cost will be, but the pay back in not having to walk on mud is worth its weight in gold.  It looks a mess too.

Just an idea for you to think about.

MB - I believe Jay's fluid would do the trick but not if you have any cats around as it is poisonous to them.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
