Honeysuckle help please
« on: February 05, 2017, 13:24 »
Hi all, this is further to my 'hedge help' topic, I thought a new posting might reach a few more people.

We have decided on Copper Beech & Hornbeam for the hedge but would also like to mix a little honeysuckle in.

I am after some advice as to what to plant, evergreen is preferable with red/pink flowers. There seems to be a massive choice & I'm getting a bit bogged down.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

BR.

That sounds an interesting combination... I can't offer advice on the most suitable type but, if it were me, I'd go to my local nursery. They will be able to show you what they have available and should be able to suggest ones that would be suitable.

If you need many plants perhaps they could offer you a deal or you could go home and check on-line for suppliers.

Never keep your wish-bone where your back-bone ought to be.

I can only think of Dropmore Scarlet, but that's only evergreen in mild winters

Honeysuckle is a lovely plant but take care not to have it too near concrete paths or paving. Sounds daft but the number of times I almost slipped due to standing on fallen berries. We had one over the front-door. Wonderful scent but the birds loved the berries too so splattered berries everywhere.

Haven't got any advise, but hope that it gets as nice as mine alas for not many weeks.it was out when we were on our hols last year.
When we arrived home and pulled on to the drive the smell was a lovely greeting home

If I was to do it again I would go for an early and late variety ,but do not know enough to advise.

Thanks for the suggestions, really helpful.
I especially like the idea of early and late plants
