My very first veg ready to eat
« on: June 29, 2010, 23:32 »
I can't believe how excited I got tonight when I saw the reds of the radishes showing through the soil. Shouted hubby over saying "
Look Look we have radishes that look ready"
Lifted 3 of them and what a size  and they taste amazing.

If I get this excited about some radishes heaven help me when the tomatoes are ready ::) ::)

I'm amazed and so proud every time I harvest something I've grown...I've even been known to txt friends (with photos)...They humour me but I can tell they don't understand my eccentric obssession!

I trimmed a few of the lower leaves off the tom plants yesterday evening and there hiding under a branch were 3 fully ripe Gardeners Delight tomatoes.
They were absolutely delicious and a world away from the shop bought red balls of water.

Home grown veg cannot be beaten for flavour. :) :) :)

I don't find that my enthusiasm has gotten any less over the few years that I have been growing veg.  I am well chuffed any year that I get to eat things from my garden.  This year my mum has also been bittten by the growing bug.  While she has always had tomatoes in the greenhouse, this year she has had lettuce in a pot that I started for her.  As they are almost finished, she has sown cut and come again in a pot to keep her going.

They look brilliant!  I've been eating my first crop of radishes this last week or so, and am so excited to go out every morning, pick one, wash it off and take it to work with my butty.  And every time I eat one at work, i have to point out to everyone that I grew it... myself... in my garden.... from an actual seed.... brilliant!  :D

My neighbour got shouted over to admire my first carrot this evening (he was slightly bemused but very complimentary!).  Yup, it's going to be whole new levels of excitement with the tomatoes!

Well done!

I'm just the same get excited about any produce from the garden especially the first crop of the season or some thing new.

I'm always showing my neighbour who is a keen gardener.

Visited my friend yesterday and we both got really excited over her first green tomatoes appearing.

Left one apple on each of my 3 new trees for a taste later.

Good effort! It really is a good feeling when you can eat your own stuff. I did a curry the other day where the onion, garlic, spuds, spinage and even some broad beans were all from the garden/ allotment. The kids are even getting in on it and asking which bits of their tea are home grown.

Just need to plant some chickens now :D

My 3 year old nephew pointed to a green tomato in my mum's greenhouse and said that was his one.  He does know he has to wait for it to change colour first.
