Winter tips please!!
« on: October 09, 2009, 13:03 »
As winter fast approaches (and already feels like it's here). Please can you pass on some tips! This will be my first winter with my chooks and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to keep them extra warm. They currently reside in their brand new 8x6 shed and free range across the garden - which they believe they well and truly own!!!! I've got some poultry spice......but what else???

Although we're lucky here to have fairly ok winters I'm concerned that my eglu cube is too big!!! Will my 3 goodsized hybrids be warm enough when the cube has ample room for 6?

Our neighbour's three were more than happy in their cube last Winter. They even laid on Christmas day!

Sounds brilliant! I had a nose in the pop hole when I let them out this morning and there WAS warm air in there. The cube is well insulated and the design has several ventilation slits. I can just imagine the girls cuddling up together....they're really fond of each other. :nowink:
So no woolly nightcaps and fluffy slippers needed then? :D What a relief!!!
