I was planning to buy some dahlias from Halls. But checked the website but it seems I have left it to late all sold out. Went to the Garden centre today and they are selling tubers half price. Is it to late to plant ? They could go in the polytunnel to try and catch up !

Its not too late. The garden centres just like to clear them out before they shoot in the bags. They catch up really fast as well :)

Have a gentle squeeze of the tubers before you buy. I've noticed that there seem to be a lot of tubers that have dried almost to dust in their packets and there is no chance of those growing ::)

Thank you they are now in at 75p a punt !

And I bought some yesterday ... three .. and they were just over £2.
They were a bit on the dry side, with some broken off tubers, but after a soak overnight they look great :D Three healthy ones ready to plant complete with small shoots, and a handful of single tubers, at least one of which has a growth point.
The other single tubers may not have, but I'll keep them to see.

From my last pack of '4' - one variety was a no show, the second had 2 small, separate tubers which have both grown the other 2 have grown as expected. So four grew, but only three of the varieties I bought, the one that didn't grow was the one I really fancied - Emory Paul :( Oh well!

Isn't that always the way?
