I need to treat my sow for lice, she's got a bit of a patchy bum, some flakiness but no apparent redness, although she's obviously been having a rub on the fence.
Was going to order some Battles powder but I wondered if anyone with experience could advise on whether to treat the three week-old piglets or not. My gut says no.
Thanks in advance. :)

from what I can find out ivomectin injections seem to be the best thing from your vet - this will also treat them for the worms they probably have (I assume they are like puppies who have worms at birth). You may need to repeat this process in a few weeks. Although this was a New Zealand website :-

Yeah, I read about the Ivomectin (and another..?), but it doesn't look too severe and the piglets will be too young for worming just yet anyway, which is why I was leaning towards the powders for the time being...
Not sure now.

can you not ring up your vet and ask them or won't they give advice over the phone?
-
Mine won't. Miserable so and so.
I've sought some advice from a farmer and he's used Battles for years and swears by it...
I might talk to the guys at Animal Health.

Hi there i use to run dogs and the only thing me and everyone else used was this stuff... Duramitex...cheap and really works..... also will be harmless to you young pigs....works on anything and fast
We used to dilute it in a big drum and just dip the dogs.. you will get it at any pet shop

Have ordered the Battles powder for now - seems easier to get hold of and has been recommended a few times now.
-
should do the same thing :)

As it happens, I am told by an old-timer that the patch on her rump is quite normal and most of his sows got it after a litter. Still, got the Battles now, just in case.

Glad to here its normal 8)
