Chilli jelly recipes
« on: July 30, 2017, 10:53 »
Hello does anyone have a simple chilli jelly recipe that doesn't use cider vinegar? I wanted to make it today but don't want to go to the shops...I have chilli's, apples and granulated sugar 😁
Thankyou

Marguerite Pattern
Apple jelly
Cooking apples or crab apples, washed but unpeeled.
1pint of water to each 2lb of fruit,
Sugar
Method
Simmer the fruit until a pulp,no need to peel or core( I would chop though)
Put the pulp through a thick muslin or jelly bag.Dont squeeze or stir or it will be cloudy
Leave to strain overnight, ( I wrap the whole thing in cling or peg a plastic bag over to exclude fruit flies)
Measure the juice
Allow 1lb of sugar to each pint f juice
Stir in the sugar & simmer until dissolved
Bring to the boil until set.
I would chop the chilli's & add in to the last few minutes of boiling. When it's cooled, bottle & as it begins to set stir to distribute the chilli otherwise it will all be at the top.
I suppose if you have lots of chilli's you could chop & cook some with the fruit & then add a smaller amount more as described above.

I do virtually the same Apple jelly receipe as Snowdrops but then turn it into garlic and sage jelly.
Roast a whole head of garlic. Chop finely when cooked along with a handful of sage leaves and add to the Apple jelly once cooked and stir well.

Lovely with pork, sausage and mash or cheese and crackers....or anything in fact.

That sounds really yummy  :D  I'm going to remember that one for when my cookers are ready  :)

Hmm that does sound good, I'll wait until I get given some cookers. I love to put a dollop of jelly into the gravy to accompany the meat

It certainly does, and as the cookers are falling now I can probably make some very soon. Thank you 😁😁
