sorry if this is a dumb question but its my first year at growing my own veggies!

I have some fantastic tomato plants I grew from seed at home. Will it be ok to harden them off in an unheated greenhouse? I don't have a cold frame. Last month I tried this and I lost a lot of tender seedlings.

There should be no problem at all, in fact with the current weather, they may be better off going straight outside, rather than cook in the greenhouse!

I've just put 18 Roma plants outside today. They should be fine.

Ok thanks. Am being cautious because last weekend but one I planted my 2 courgette plants and 4 sweetcorn  plants out that I had nurtured from seed but they all died. Maybe it was still too cold two weeks ago or is it normal to lose some? I was really pleased with them too

A couple of weeks ago it was quite cold at night, we only just escaped a frost here. They really don't like cold weather, not just frosts, but the weather had a dramatic turn-about.

Do keep an eye on the forecast though. June frosts are not unknown!

Wendy, if you have a cloche or two handy, you can always pop these on if the weather/nights get cold.

We've got runner beans and courgettes planted out, and have the plastic type of cloches at the ready, in case we have to dash down there and cover them up for any reason.

Luckily, you get a reasonable warning from the forecasters...

I did say reasonable did I...?
