Title: Chicken noise
Post by: Tom Parrot on August 11, 2018, 14:58
Dear readers,
How would one describe the sound of a chicken?
Ducks quack mostly.
Dogs bark.
Cats meow.
My chickens make various noises depending on why they are making a noise. But when not under stress they make a soft purring type of noise.

Mine are quite vocal and you can understand what different noises mean.

I'm in charge, back off or alarm calls are very different to the purring content noises and the happy chuck chucks of finding something good to eat.  Then there are the get over here and feed us calls, the discontented racket when they think they need to be let out/ in/ generally the opposite of what they wanted 5 minutes ago  and the triumphal egg laying calls are unmistakable

I like when I give them some treat and they make the excited 'trilling' noise. A chicken in the coop will hear it and bolt out therefore forgetting it's duty to lay me an egg.
