Joining 2 greenhouses together?
« on: February 10, 2008, 09:57 »
I'm after a very large gh so think I might have to get 2 or 3 smaller ones and join them together.  Has anyone got any experience in doing this?  Will the smaller ones I get hold of all have to be  the same make etc??  Any help appreciated.

It all depends on how fancy you want it to look and how handy you are.

Have you considered a poly tunnel? They're more cost efficient for large areas.

If it has to be glass, using the same model will mean the joins are easier.

Hope that helps

The one I've just put up is 3 6x4's originally, as long as they are by the same manufacturer or of similar construction then it's a matter of drilling extra holes in strategic places, like John says depends on how handy you are.

I'll try to take some piccies of joints etc if you like ?

Here you go, basically on mine the joints are just drilled out to best fit either under or over the next piece of framing

Left hand side of join between two green houses, this is the factory fitted side

Right hand side of same joint notice how this side the frame is on the inside on the above photo it's on the out.

Same joint from outside

Same piece, but bottom joint again one side under other over

And finished

No idea JR, real pain in the ass as when i put it together the last section is something like 126 cm gutter lengths, the other 2 are 124 cm an I'd got them  mixed up some real interesting angles was the result. What ever the manufacturer is I don't know but all the bits are of identical construction , except the odd size of the back section.

Can't complain got it off freecycle, only cost me about £4.50 in new clips and bolts  :D

Cheers for the pics mate, that should help. Yes, that is a critall gh. If you lose any of the little bolts that slide up the frame you're nackered as the company went bust a while ago.

Or you can get something called a cropped bolt works wonders you can slip em between the gaps of framing and twist them in.

The make of greenhouse I have (which I can't recall as bought about 20 years ago) had an option of buying 2 greenhouses that joined together, with an internal connecting door to give the option of part heated/part cool.

Cheers for the offer for the bolts, maybe will need some in the future. At the minute though i'm just looking about for 2 or 3 gh's to join together.

where did you get the clips from.
just obtained a greenhouse which i believe is a crittall. clips look the same. but can not seem to source any as so called standard ones the tab that fits into frame profile is too long

I think it was from work .. Wilko's but it's seasonal stuff so none at the minute, try B&Q or some of the smaller garden centres, or even a local independent hardware shop amazing what you find in those  ;)
