Hi all,

I am a new member to the web site, having just joined, but have followed the site for the last 4 mths.
I am a novice, first allotment, and this will be my first growing season, so I welcome all advice and read the forums with interest.
John has kindly, at his own volition put some photo's, in the photo,s section of this web site, so if you want a laugh, have a look  !!
I am going for the raised bed , no heavy digging method, all comments, and advice welcome.

THANKS again John..............( he's a very clever fellow !! )

Very impressive pics. I'm going for the extremely no-effort beds. I've just marked them out with string, dug up the really big weeds and covered the rest with compost.
It seems to be OK so far although I've run out of compost. I've planted strawberries through Tescos black plastic mulch and am experimenting with 99p fleece to warm a bed for my carrots (not yet in).
Apart from a couple of rows of peas, that's all I've planted so far - it still seems a bit cold, even in darkest London.
My pride and joy is of course my shed, which is currently undergoing some very rough carpentry. And I constructed a fabulous 3-section compost bin on Sunday (one bin for manure). I need a few more pallets though.
Amazing how the time goes more quickly on the allotment than at work...
I'm about to branch out to a cold frame soon.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

"Amazing how the time goes more quickly on the allotment than at work... "
Amen to that - six hours on Sat flew by ( and I didn't stop for lunch! )
Yet today, I swear someone had glued the hands of my clock to 9.45....it was that for ages !!
Ah well, light nights coming soon, and Mrs.Novice will be an allotment widow in the weekday evenings too

You're welcome, Oggy. I'm a web designer by trade so it's no biggy for me.

Next project is a system to allow people to put their own diaries online here - been promising it for ages but other things keep getting in the way. Watch out for a big new section on here tomorrow.
Check out our books - ideal presents
