Water pump- dyke 12v or 240v
« on: July 17, 2017, 23:49 »
Hello

I can fill up my IBC from the dyke at the back of the allotment. I have to clear the many many weeds to get access first, and probably climb into the ditch to see the lay of the .. well.. er hopefully water.

I have two options.

Using partners 1000w genny and running something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Terratek-1100W-TWP1100T-Submersible-Cellar/dp/B00DRD2PJQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500331470&sr=8-2&keywords=dirty+water+pump
Terratek 1100W TWP1100T Submersible Water Pump, Submersible Dirty Water Pump, Pool Pump, Cellar, Flood And Pond Pump

Or using his spare boat bilge pump, off a 12v leisure battery
http://www.baysidemarine.co.uk/seaflo-12v-500gph-bilge-pump-5799-p.asp?gclid=Cj0KEQjwwLHLBRDEq9DQxK2I_p8BEiQA3UDVDv_5R9cwiZWZ_trWvAIF2cHH4EONBBcJh6kf-TBYFt8aAu2u8P8HAQ

(I'm installing a spare leisure battery and solar panel trickle charger to the shed (that is situated next to the dyke) to run things like chargable speaker, phones etc)

The bilge pump is not so used to filth I think but was thinking of putting it in my crayfish trap and wrapping that in enviromesh

Decisions. I need to get the IBC filled at least someway as with a poly tunnel, I will need it full. Unfortunatly the IBC is currently at the other end of the plot to the shed and dyke. Not sure whether to move it now

If the ibc is downhill from the top of the  dyke The bilge pump should be powerful enough and once set up less hassle to use. Rather than a genny. Have you thought of using an inverter. Posibly the best of both worlds then.
May the fork be with you

As flat as Norfolk (was born and bred there). 240v would be the better option as distance is needed to get water to destination (more grunt from pump) .Power source is optional. Pos x2 deep cycles and an inverter with a solar trickle charger
