I am looking to replace my well worn and well loved Felco Number 8 secateurs. I note the number 7 version has "rotating handles" which I assume gives a better alignment of fingers as you cut and hence less fatigue when making repeated movements. Has anyone had experience of these and if so can I please ask if they are worth the extra £'s

I believe it is good for repeated cutting as for pruning in an orchard. 

I don't think it's really necessary if you only use them for small jobs. 

I have a pair of 8's but would love the swively ones I'm sure.

I know what you mean -- I never really ever spend time in my garden without my 8's in my hand or on my belt -- I have just reshaped a beech hedge 8 foot high by about 100 yards long by hand, both sides mainly with the 8's and loppers and then cut and bagged the clippings for the dump. that is a lot of cuts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They have done about 20 years faithful service, a Christmas present from FIL who I miss greatly now he is gone. But still perhaps time to go try some others out and treat myself to some new ones.
Opinions on the best secateurs would be very welcome from any heavy users out there please.

I know how good tools can improve the way that you can do a job.
I always like to have a good spade, saw, hammer. But I can't for the life of me justify spendiing the sort of money that Felcos demand! I know that they must be the Rolls Royce of hand tools, but I can get about ten or a dozen pairs of the type that I buy from Asda for the same money. I wouldn't be scared of leaving them out in the weather for a while or even loosing them. I've had a cheap pair for a couple of years now and there is still a good amount of wear left in them. I don't need to do a lot of pruning though.

I have had mine for at least 10 years, probably longer and they are as good now as ever (with just an occasional sharpen).

Over the years, I have sold many pairs of felco secateurs to various customers
and several customers have asked to see the rotating types.

Once they have handled them, they nearly always said no thank you
and purchased the standard type like your number 8s  or number 2s

Hello to you all. I am new to this post but could not help but make comment about the Felco pruners. I am a professional gardener responsible for some 7000 roses. I have found that the revolving models such as the 7and12 pruners are a huge advantage if you are doing many cuts.  This would for me be in the periods of the year when deadheading and form pruning take place. I cannot speak for other people but I can say that they have saved my hands on more than one occasion. I have a pair of the Felco 1 secateurs that wee discontinued many years ago and they are used much of the time. They are still in perfect using condition. There are no models of Felco that fail to impress. I prefer nothing else.

I've used a pair of Felco secateurs (#8) for years and cannot fault them. 

I have heard good reports of the ones with swivelling handle but have never tried them myself.

I buy Felco's as gifts for my favourite gardening friends too

Having owned many pairs of cheap secateurs, believe me when I say that one good investment in Felco's is more than worth it. Plus, you can get replacement parts for Felco, but not the cheapies.

A good tool always makes the job easier.

noticed this posting of mine from 3 years ago has sprung back again -- quick update my son bought me soem No 7 which I keep very clean and use for careful work such as fruit trees, soft fruit canes etc but my very old no 8s still used for rough stuff keeping tidy around the garden. I view them both with huge affection.
