A word of caution about Raisins!.
« on: August 11, 2013, 07:09 »

Like most folks I love the www, I love to find new sites. Now I happened onto a wine making site and I was amazed at the information on there about.......wait for it...Raisins

Take a look... at the site here you will need to scroll down about halfway for the English version.

So the next thing I did was to check out the two packets of raisins that we bought last week intended for my wine making.

Now we all know what P-sorbate does to yeast....info Here

So even if you don't use it and let your wines finish up dry.  When your making a wine and the recipe calls for raisins your adding P/S via the raisins, not a good start for the yeast to do their job.

Crazy Jacks dried fruit doesn't have any additives or preservatives, and from an eating point, taste much better for it. So there are options but a bit more pricy than the normal ones.

My pleasure Auntie... ;)  it just surprised me about raisins having this stuff on them. You don't think about such a thing when your in the middle of a recipe brewing. All the times that I've put the odd hand full of the little * into a wine, thankfully the yeast as always made it through, but at anytime it could have stalled. Thinking back I've had the odd wine start off slow, makes you wonder??.
