He does anyone know where to get some Hessian Potato storage sacks.
I have been on Sutton's etc but they are mighty expensive at £16 for ten plus postage.
So any suggestions where to get hessian sacks from?

I get mine from a neighbour who works at a pet food shop. They have the loose bird seed delivered in them & only sling them. If you've got one nearby you could enquire.

They're not as big as a  sack that would hold 25 kg - but they're free!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I did the same, and thought that Suttons were expensive, but when I shopped around, found that they were cheaper than most other places.
I didn't know anyone I could blag some off, so in the end I used paper potato sacks that the greengrocer gave.  They are the ones that the spuds are delivered in.  Mrs Bouquet

If paper ones will do ask a friend that keeps chickens. I buy mixed corn in paper sacks for my girls. I could post you some if you don't know anyone with chickens. Am off for the weekend soon but will check on Monday whether you want any.

As long as you've got a dark place to store your spuds, the large mesh bags from grocery shops will do. Ours get things like turnips and corn shipped in them, and the produce people are happy to be rid of them and free. I notice a lot of market gardeners here are starting to use them to sell their spuds in as they're much cheaper and airier than hessian.

hi fb if you do use paper sacks just a few tips
if they are ex feed sacks turn them inside out as some animal feed have additives in them
paper sacks are only used on the farm for short term storage of taters as there is no ventilation in them, so make a few holes in them along the top & bottom or store them with the tops open
raise the sacks of the floor on some slats so the air can get under them
as regards hessian sacks theese still want to be kept in a dark place, the new woven polypropalene sack are as good as the old hessian ones
hope this helps :)

To put hessian in, of course, just as you put potatoes in potato sacks.

Or have I missed something?

I've put mine in the shed in some small plastic mesh crates (I think they're milk or cooldrink crates) from a cafe, with a few loose sheets of newspaper between each to shield from light a bbit more.
