PSB looking a bit limp
« on: November 28, 2010, 08:00 »
I've been down to the allotment over the weekend to find my PSB looking decidedly limp, wilting if you will.

It's the main leaves that are showing signs of distress, the young sprouting stalks (yes, it's sprouting already) are not currently showing signs of wilting.

No snow here, but some very cold nights (sub-zero), there's a hard frost on the ground and frozen standing water. The PSB is in a raised bed and (from last weekend) under an enviromesh cloche.

Any advice?, does it do this?, is it suffering frost damage or is it lacking water?

All advice welcome :)

The heavy frosts last year eventually turned my PSB stalks to mush. The leaves on my broccoli are saggy at the moment but should recover.
The plants are frost resistant but not frost proof.

The plants have just closed down to protect themselves.

Frost this hard is unusual in November so it could be that there will be some damage to the plants.

Some of my 'Rudolph' had their stems frozen last Winter and the plants gave up when they should have been regrowing in the Spring. Later PSB were fine.
