Minature Rose

I've just been given a lovely red one and whenever I have had them in the past they've died. I've tried them inside and out without sucess.

Any tips on looking after it would be appreciated.

I bought one for Mrs Golf for, I think, Christmas quite a few years back.   Springtime, I put it into unheated conservatory and then outside in a sheltered spot.   It has survived 3 or 4 winters outside now.

Last autumn, I dug it out & split into 3 plants (there were always 3 as far as I can tell since I only had to tease the roots apart).

So my question is, how do I propagate it?

Cuttings I'd say WG.  Same as you can 'big' roses.  Grafting onto a root stock is only used by commercial growers to speed the propagation process.

Thanks for the link Aunt Sally.  WG will check to see if there is more than one in the pot.

I have quite a few miniature roses in my extremely cold climate and they've all done well in the garden. In fact, I moved some to this new house 3 yrs ago. I treat them exactly as I do large roses - water, feed, winter cover over the crowns - very important, except the feed is reduced.   But you must start with plants in reasonable shape or there's no success. As long as the main stem is green and there are a few leaves near the top, I buy them and plant out.

As for propogating, personally I don't bother as I can always get more cheaply after valentine's day, mother's day, etc.

Thanks Trillium I have looked at the pot and there are 4 plants in there not sure how long they have been kept indoors so I intend to harden them off and then plant them outside.
