self seeding annuals?
« on: June 14, 2007, 15:26 »
I'm looking for ideas for flowers that I can sow down at the allotment that will self seed for next year (and the years after that!)

So far I have some poppies, nigella and rudbeckia.

Any ideas for others that I can sow outdoors preferably?

Thanks :D
Organic :)

Marigolds, forget-me-nots, poached egg plants are all pretty and good at self-seeding.

Ahh- I have marigolds, but I bought them as plants, I had no idea they would self seed, that is a bonus!

the flowers that self-seed readily on my plots and in the garden are:-
nigella
poppies
poached egg plant - great for beneficial hoverflies
phacelia - lovely bluey/purple flowers which bees go mad for
borage - a bit of a brute
pot marigolds

this year I've also got a nicotiana that self seeded itself in the greenhouse which is quite pretty.

fox gloves are biennial but they self seed quite readily too.
