My shamrock has got rusty patches all over it, is this a disease or some sort of pest?  Should I dig it up?.  The surrounding plants look alright

To answer this question a lot more info is needed.Shamrock is the name given to a great many clover plants that happen to have three leaves. The most common called by the colour of their flowers is Yellow, Black, Crimson, and White. All fix nitrogen into the soil but some tolerate acid and or flooding or drought better than others. Most clovers struggle along quite well without help. The biggest problems being not enough visits from bees and over feeding.

Then it almost certainly clover(trifolium Pratence)............There are over 70 types of clover with the prefix Trifolium meaning Three leaves, that all mimic the shamrock.Even in Ireland there is disageement as to which plant is really shamrock.............When you buy shamrock seeds it depends on where you buy them as to which type of clover you buy.No one worries too much just as long as it has the important three leaves. :D

Little Miss Muffet It is shamrock,I was only stating what type of Shamrock.
If you wore a sprig on St Patricks Day it would be the same as most of the other Shamrocks around.

mine has pink flowers, and it came from my grandmothers garden - Iwas told it was shamrock.  What about rusty patches though ??? It seems to be surviving whatever it is because it is flowering now.

They are so resilient they like grass will survive most things. If it is flowering then there is not much wrong.Mostly they suffer from not enough visits from bees, now that it is flowering the bees will come. They are great plants feeding the soil with goodness and some make a very nice addition to the salad bowl, but not all so be careful. :?
