Lawnmower help please
« on: June 18, 2008, 14:24 »
Hi
I'm looking to treat my son to a new lawnmower and wonder if anyone could recommend a good make/model please.

It's for garden lawn use (rough sort of lawn at the moment as kids have playing area on it) quite a large lawn area of about 50 ft by 150ft.

Would like a petrol mower with electric start (so the daughter -in-law can start it up   ) with large collection box and a roller. Think thats about it....
Any help much appreciated as the choice on the web is doing my head in.

i have one of the ones from focus(forget the make) and its the cheapest in the range its a petrol push along one and ive had it about 5 years now and never had any problems never even serviced it and its had some abuse (as im typing this im sure its planning to break on me lol)
its not got an electric start but as long as you push the primer the recomended 5 times it starts 1st time every time with little effort and it was only £99 and they still do them altho im sure there have been small changes in the past 5 years

i may just have been lucky to have got a good one but i cant complain about mine at all

Do you mean this one?

http://www.mower-magic.co.uk/acatalog/HONDA_IZY_LANMOWERS.html

Looks good and not a bad sort of price, I'll email the details to him.

Thanks.

I think most of these petrol lawn mowers have a decent engine that lasts for years.  you can't go wrong with a Honda as mentioned but daz's machine is testament to my comments cheap and robust. BTW daz check the oil and filter it's not hard  :D

It all depends how deep your pockets are also :D

I hate lawnmowers, most we've had have been total kerapp     I think they should let you try before you buy and I'd have saved a fortune. The petrol ones seem to be made for gert hefty blokes and just trying to start the * is enough to dislocate a shoulder     And Flymo's     Mutter mutter.  When my old man bought the last one he asked the guy in the shop "will my wife be able to start it"     He lied

Still it saves me a job  :D

I would second Daz's suggestion. I have one of these too, it starts first (gentle) pull every time and gets a real hammering around my place and is in use at least three times a week all summer.

Started first pull after standing all winter.

My brother who has a landscaping business has borrowed it a couple of times when his (much more expensive) machines have broken down, and was well impressed.

May have a look at the oil and filter though after reading this
