Bird scarers. What works?
« on: December 30, 2006, 20:31 »
I have a huge problem with birds in my garden as my neighbours feed them constantly.  Sometimes, it's like the Hitchcock film outside

Last spring I bought a childs kite in the shape of a buzzard and strung it up so that it moved around in the breeze.  Naturally I called it Leighton after a local town called,.....wait for it....Leighton Buzzard

It might be purely co-incidence but not one pigeon landed in the garden, though there are many.  Unfortunately the local sparrows couldn't give a damn and demolished every green shoot in sight

What do I do?  I know netting works, but has anyone found anything else that deters the little b******s
Cheese makes everything better.

A cat! works well for us we have two of the lazy things.
My mum swears by thin black cotton strung onto bits of stick round her seedlings, "they don't like it on their feathers or legs"so she says.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Tried cds but they were completely ignored by the sparrows.  Also, like my neighbours so nobbling their bird feeding is not an option.
