Hello, I’ve just taken on an allotment plot that has been left for about three years. I started growing veg on a friends plot and realised how much I liked it so decided to take the plunge. I’m in the process of clearing at the moment but am fortunate to have inherited a rickety shed, two small apple trees, red currant bushes, early raspberries, gooseberries and rhubarb!
I have a big job ahead of me (as passers-by remark!) but hope to learn a bit as I’m a complete beginner, especially with the aforementioned fruit!

Pescador:
Brilliant and Welcome!
Was it already covered or have you done that?
There's loads of good advise on here, if you can't find it, just ask.

pattypantastic:
Cheers Pescador, I sheeted over the large area and cleared all the way along a beech hedge, dealt with brambles and a cherry tree that was doing nothing but being a bully! I’ve yet to test the soil but it seems silty. The allotment association have since cut down the leylandii, sycamores and elder that grew on the boundary and encroached on the plot.
There’s so much on this site, I shall have to delve in when I can, a bit like the allotment!

snowdrops:
Hi there, love the name by the way. The Allotment world is fab, once hooked that’ll be it, you’ll talk, dream, think it all day every day. Forum is great too as Pescador says, ask away, looks a lovely site, a couple of others here are in York, you might be on the same site as them

Fairy Plotmother:
👋🏻👋🏻 A big welcome.
