I have just returned from my holidays and found my Light Sussex hen looking poorly. Tail dipped, having difficulty walking although eating and drinking ok. When I picked her up I found a bulge the size of an egg near her vent. It is very soft to the touch. Does anyone have any advice?

It might be a prolapse.  I'd try and get her in to see a vet.
