What is so bad with peat pots?  I was looking at some the other day: 96 pots for £3.  I was planning on going back to buy them!

I am a big peat pot fan and had very good results - so I tend to use what works for me over and over.  However, when the weather warms up and the plants start to grow, the pots can dry out very quickly.  You also need to make a judgement call on costs - each pot costs less than 3p, but weigh it up with what you are growing and if it is worth it.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

Can you start carrots off in these??

I know you are meant to plant them straight into the soil but if the tube roles prevent disturbing the roots would this work, has any tried previously?

Cheers

Yep but as mentioned carrots have long tap roots, so i put them in kitchen paper rolls as they are longer, which means you can leave them longer to get established. Same with parsnips. We have some neighbours collect for us too in return for a few veg, works great!
Politicians are like nappies - they need changing for the same reason

From an enviromental point of view ... Peat is not sustainable, so best to avoid using it. Harvesting it destroys the bog far faster then the peat can be formed.
