Ooops! Got my garlic bulbils planted the other day then planted my shallots as well. As the shallot order came in October and the garlic came last week I'm assuming all will be ok. Any comments welcome!

The garlic will be fine, but I'm afraid it depends on the variety of shallots whether they are recommended for Autumn or early Spring planting.

I have some red sun that have started sprouting so they will be going in at the weekend. They are spring planting ones but I'm not sure what else to do with them.

Did you save them yourself, or have you bought them? The major companies are not dispatching them until January.

I have some red shallots that didn't come to anything last year, so they were left in the ground and are now sprouting away merrily, in fact they look exceedingly healthy. I know little about the life cycle of a shallot and wouldn't be surprised if something happens to them in the spring before they grow to their full glory, but they are a funny thing, splitting as they do like some immortal clones. Will be fascinated to see what happens, and the worst could just be a few green spring onions early in the year.

I saved them myself. They are very small and too fiddly to skin and prepare.

They're called Griselle and yes, they're good for autumn planting - phew!
