I have grown 2 types of carrot this year,1 lot is in the veg area in open ground i only did 1 row,the slugs have had a really go at them .
I have grown another variety in a container,they are a very small carrot,have forgotten the type :closedeyes:they have yet to be found by the slug,so befor they do i want to take them out,they are so tasty i don't want the damn slug to get any.
What is the best way to store them to keep them fresh and crisp,any good idea's?.Lillileaf

Unless its going to freeze hard I would leave them in the pots and pull them as needed then they will always be fresh. Maybe raise the pots off the ground to deter slugs or use copper bands or similar. Some carrots can stand a hard frost but that depends on the variety. Autumn King can stay in the ground (or pot) all winter apart from when there is seriously cold freezing weather.

As rodents have taken a liking to our carrots left in the ground, we store ours in the garage in slightly damp compost. Sand would do well too.

I do wash them first to check they are sound, then put them in the box in layers, not touching each other. Like this, they can easily last through to about March. Nice to just go out and ferret out a carrot or two when you wan them in the Winter
