Will it be okay to put the scaffold netting over my garlic and onions stop the birds pulling them out

It will, but I use the simpler method of raking soil over them.

Also I meant to say that I did not put any fertiliser into the Soil before I planted them Will they be okay or should I  Add it  still

I don't fertilise when I plant. My way of thinking is at this time of year they are just making mostly root and then will remain dormant for the best part of the next few months. Rain will wash added nutrients out of the soil.

I give them a dose in spring when they start to get a move on again.
