After missing the worst of Ophelia last week ...
« on: October 21, 2017, 13:45 »
Storm Brian is giving us a good battering today! A couple of heavy downpours this morning, I got soaked through walking down the hill after getting my flu jab. I may catch a cold - but shouldn't get the flu  :D
Now the wheelie bins have taken themselves for a trip along the terrace, and the chairs have moved themselves off the paving and onto the lawn - perhaps they both needed the exercise after standing still for so long  ::)

Oop norf here we're getting a bit if a battering from a rather brisk southerly wind but all is well so far.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Heavy rain overnight but no more so far but very blustery winds, did dry the washing though, had to use lots of pegs!!
The blowaway greenhouse is living up to its name even with a heavy plant pot in the base

Strange really; We live just the other side of the Thames Estuary, (stretching it a bit, lol), and the weather here is quite mild really, a bit windyish, but not bad, and only 4mm of rain overnight. A very short and very light shower after mid-day, and the sun is shining now.

Having taken off again the blowaway has been moved to the big greenhouse, hopefully should stay put now

The worst of it is around SW England, Wales and Ireland (again), here in West Sussex it has been like a typical windy unsettled autumn day. A friend has just told me several of her greenhouse panels have blown out again despite my attempts to silicone them into place, so will have to have a look at how to fit them even more securely.

Gorilla glue?? Actually we've had it quite bad here and it's still very windy.

Talking to one of the Milford Haven tanker pilots yesterday he had some interesting photos on his phone !
Brian has produced 75+mph winds and 16 metre swells.

That is fifty two and a half feet in old money.

It was a bit ironic this storm Brian, perhaps a year late

Oct 22nd last year was the day mum died, my old man died back in 2013, he was called Brian!

We said at the time a major storm will come, she was always nagging him about the sneaky glass of wine he had when she wasn't looking  So I believe it may of kicked off a little last weekend.

After having a look it appears the panels which were siliconed in had withstood the wind, and it was other panels which I had tried to secure with no-more-nails tape which had failed. If I silicone all remaining panels that should work in future.
