My brassicas
« on: October 16, 2017, 17:33 »
Well the cabbage , broccoli and sprouts I sowed back in August have made some good progress and I am hopeful that we might be eating some of them by Christmas. We have had an excellent period of weather since I sowed them and they were planted out at the first week in September so it looks like my system from now on should be sow at the start of August and hope that all things being equal they should follow the same growing pattern... although we all know that merde happens :)

Wow, they look great! Mine are OK but have been chewed by various things. Bit worried about the sprouts in this stormy wind.

My ones were taking a chewing from various too but I sprayed with a bug killer and I have found a supply of blue slug pellets that actually do kill the critters and less than half the price of the iron phosphate ones. I had been using the eco friendly stuff but it is very expensive and it does not work! One night with the blue pellets and there are dead slugs everywhere. I know they are less friendly but I am not growing veg for pests to eat the blue pellets do exactly what it says on the side of the packet!

Tempting fate here Growster but I have never seen a wood pigeon in my garden ?? Although we are out in the countryside you see very few about... now deer... that is another story, I have had to erect a high fence around my veg garden to keep them out.
